Guadalupe Apartments: Community Focused Affordable Housing

Construction is kicking off this fall for the Guadalupe Apartments development which will provide 50 modern affordable units for teachers and the local community of the Guadalupe Centers East Campus. The project partnership between Consolidated Housing Solutions and Guadalupe Centers is a unique non-profit collaboration for development and centered the needs and voices of the community at the forefront of every decision.

Context Driven

The design references colors and materials from the site context, complementing and providing a transition from the institutional brick of the Guadalupe Centers campus to the adjacent residential neighborhood with lap and panel fiber cement siding.

A roof ‘frame’ wraps the corner of the four-story building, drawing focus to the main entry while the building steps to three stories and into the existing grade. This step is respectful of the street scale and relationship to the existing single-family homes across the street, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for residents and neighbors alike.

Focus on Community

One of the highlights of Guadalupe Apartments is the outdoor community amenities, including the ground floor patio complete with a grilling station and pergola. The 4th floor community room is adjacent to a rooftop deck, providing unobstructed views of the downtown Kansas City skyline and surrounding neighborhoods.

Commitment to Affordable Housing

As a LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) project, our work includes an additional layer of coordination, review, and design requirements. The majority of our housing work integrates affordability, both from a development funding requirement and our design approach. Access to new, quality housing is a right deserved by all in our community, and we are dedicated to fostering vibrant and inclusive neighborhoods for all individuals and families.

We look forward to welcoming the first residents by the end of 2024. Stay tuned for updates!
