Marlborough School Renovations

Kansas City Community Land Trust (KCCLT) is implementing an incremental development process to transform the existing Marlborough School into a neighborhood hub of community services and small business commercial space. The full vision of the school redevelopment is a mixed-use commercial building that will serve the surrounding community, including restaurants, studios/offices, event spaces, music room, and grocery. Infill housing utilizing Low-Income Housing Tax Credits will be included in a future phase on the surrounding site.

Slattery worked alongside KCCLT leadership and their extended consultant team to refine their vision and phased renovation strategy for the 49,000 square foot building renovation. Phase 1 prioritizes a core & shell renovation of the first floor of the existing three-story building. The work includes refreshed entries and corridors, new restroom facilities, and new tenant white-box spaces for lease. Looking ahead to future phases of the project, the first phase also includes additional infrastructure work; new windows, accessibility, as well as fire suppression, mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades. Community volunteer projects were identified throughout the process and coordinated with the General Contractor’s scope to offer affordability and invite the surrounding neighborhood to participate in creating this new community asset.
