MU Roy Blunt NextGen Precision Health Building

The NextGen Building brings together the School of Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, and the School of Engineering to advance research and place the University of Missouri as a leader in the development of precision medicine of orthopedics, cardiology, geriatrics, and public health. Slattery (teamed with Burns & McDonnell and LSY Lab Planning) served as Associate Architect for this 265,000 square foot medical research complex, including programming, engagement, and project management.

The interdisciplinary facility with state-of-the-art instrumentation provides high quality laboratory and collaborative space to do basic and translational interdisciplinary, medical science. Located on the university’s main campus, the new facility is located within walking distance of existing health care, medical research, and engineering education facilities to reinforce critical partnerships with those institutions. The laboratory spaces within NextGen are carefully designed to facilitate a wide range of research opportunities, and to adaptable for programs to grow, change, retool, and restart. Collaboration spaces are distributed throughout the building to foster unplanned “collisions” among researchers and students of the various disciplines.

NextGen Precision Health brings researchers, clinicians, students, and partnerships together in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative setting under one roof. The new facility propels the UM System forward in its mission to provide advanced, precision health care to Missouri residents.
