Boulevard Lofts
Working with the local government and Prairie Fire Development, and the design team collaborated with the Community Housing of Wyandotte County to create housing focused on vitality and a strong sense of place. Located in the urban core of Kansas City, Kansas, on a parcel of land that previously had been undeveloped, this unique housing model includes a creek and heavy natural landscape that provides an outdoor activity space for the residents.
The overall architectural composition creates a hierarchy of space for residents – public, private and shared. The area is planned with the integration of an urban farm; an ‘agrihood’ which includes an orchard, gardens, and beehives. The urban corner is anchored by a larger building containing 32 units with a variety of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The opposite side of the development includes 18 walk-up units with patios that transition this new development into the scale and architectural quality of the existing, adjacent neighborhood.
