Creekside Apartments & Townhomes

Through a design competition, Slattery was selected as a part of the overall development team to provide affordable housing in Ames, Iowa.

The development is a combination of various housing typologies, including two- and three-bedroom units, a mix of townhome and an apartment building. Through coordination with the city council and the city residents, it was noted that density along the primary street was a major priority as this will coordinate with adjacent housing developments already planned along this major corridor. A robust engagement process with local residents resulted in a first-floor amenity space shared by the entire community, outdoor social gathering opportunities, and a network semi-public stoops and balconies.

Focus was given to balancing construction cost, maintaining green space, and maximizing the quantity of affordable housing units. These measures have been fine-tuned in reaction to post-pandemic rising construction costs, resulting in a 30-unit housing community.
