KCATA Administrative Office Renovation
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) sought to transform an outdated administrative office into a workplace that better supports the people who use it every day. The design focused on improving the overall quality of the employee experience through a more equitable, connected, and intuitive environment. Clear circulation routes and strategic wayfinding elements help staff easily navigate the floor, while flexible planning accommodates evolving departmental needs and encourages collaboration across teams.
A defining feature of the renovation was the reimagining of the traditional office layout. Enclosed offices were relocated to the building interior, allowing open work areas to take advantage of perimeter windows and expanded access to natural daylight and exterior views. This shift created a more equitable workplace experience while fostering a brighter, more welcoming atmosphere. A thoughtful mix of workstations, collaboration areas, private meeting spaces, wellness amenities, and a dedicated lounge for transit operators supports a variety of work styles and employee needs.
Additional stewardship-driven building renovations included a roof replacement as well as a new solar array. The result is an energy-efficient workplace that promotes comfort, connection, and well-being while reflecting KCATA’s commitment to investing in its workforce.
