KU Hall Center Expansion

The Hall Center’s primary mission is to stimulate and support research in the humanities, arts and social sciences, especially interdisciplinary research, at the University of Kansas. In addition, the Center sponsors special programs that engage the university and the wider community in dialogue on issues that bring the humanities to bear on the quality of life for all citizens.

To expand this mission to a wider audience, the university engaged with Slattery to conceptualize a new Hall Center entry experience. Several options for the expansion were explored, all considering the programmatic needs and careful integration of the historic limestone archways of the existing building. The proposed design provides a new entrance, including generous reception and pre-function spaces. Improved landscaping and an outdoor entry plaza greet visitors upon arrival. The enhanced experience continues into the conference hall, with new acoustical, lighting, audio/visual, and HVAC systems.

Once completed, the upgraded Hall Center will demonstrate the University of Kansas’ commitment to providing programming dedicated to the humanities, arts, and social sciences for researchers, students, and the surrounding Lawrence community.
