UMKC Fine Arts Renovations
Slattery led a complex renovation of two Fine Arts Classrooms in one of the oldest buildings on the UMKC campus The first phase transformed the existing Media Production Service Room into a new Classroom for Recording and Filming. The design of interior finishes, acoustical treatments, and lighting was carefully coordinated with a custom recording screen background. The multi-purpose classroom now provides hands-on training for film and media production as well as lecture capabilities.
The second renovation combined code required upgrades with a complete rethink of the existing film viewing room for multiple teaching modalities while maintaining a high-quality small theatre experience. The design of interior finishes, acoustical treatments, lighting, tiered seating, furniture, and hearkens back to the ‘golden age’ of film. Purposeful integration of adjustable lighting, acoustical mitigation, and audio/visual systems allow the space to transition from a theatre experience to an engaging university classroom as needed.
